108 Create project for Neural Amp Modeler Plugin in Reaper

In this section of the tutorial, I will show you how to create a new project to run Neural Amp Modeler in Reaper Digital Audio Workstation (DAW).

The following is a step-by-step guide.

Create a New Project:

First let's create a New Project. Please click on "File" in the top menu then select "New project." This is shown in the following image. ↓

Set Project Properties:

A dialog box will appear, allowing you to configure project properties. Set the project's sample rate to 48000 and keep other settings as default. Once you've configured the project properties, click the "OK" button.↓

Create a New Track for Neural Amp Modeler Plugin:

For Neural Amp Modeler, a track serves as a container where you can store and shape your desired guitar tone.

As shown in the image below, you can create a new track by right-clicking in the panel area and selecting "Insert New Track," or you can utilize the shortcut `Ctrl + T` (Windows) or `Cmd + T` (Mac). ↓

Arm the Track for Recording:

To enable real-time guitar input in Reaper DAW, we need to arm the track for recording. To arm the track for recording, please find the "arm" button on the track. It looks like a red circle. ↓ (Please note that no audio recording takes place during this step.)

When clicked, the button turns red indicating that the track is ready for recording. ↓

Select Input Source:

Look for the input selection button on the track controls. It's labeled with "in" as shown in the following image. ↓

Click on the input selection button, and you should see a list of available audio inputs. Select "Record: Input (Audio or Midi)" as shown in the following image."↓

Test if You Can Hear Your Guitar Sound:

Up to this point, Reaper should be able to receive and play back your guitar performance in real-time. Try strumming your guitar. If you can hear the guitar sound coming from both speakers. Now let's move on to the next part of this tutorial and start jamming with NAM in Reaper DAW.

If you do not hear any sound but see the red bars moving as you strum your guitar as shown in the following image, it indicates that Reaper is functioning correctly. Check if your speakers are turned on and the volume is set high enough to hear the sound.

Save the project:

Now we can save the project we just created for Neural Amp Modeler. To do this, please click on "File." then select "Save Project As..." or "Save Project".
